Three new BMW i models set to drop before 2018

BMW has announced three new i models including the i8 Roadster, an updated i3 and the brand new i Next.

The German manufacturer is set to reveal the i8 Roadster in 2018, which won’t look too dissimilar to the i Vision Future Interaction Concept that made its debut at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Vegas, or indeed the Roadster concept that first landed back in 2012. Engine and performance specifications are expected to mimic those of the coupe variant, which features a 1.5-litre petrol engine combined with an electric motor. Combined power is 357bhp and a 0-100kph takes just 4.4seconds, while top speed is an industry standard 250kph.

A newly updated BMW i3 has also been announced, likely to be available in both pure electric and range-extender guise. At the moment, no details have been revealed concerning the intriguing i Next, BMW chairman Harald Kruger confirming only that the model will be a “new spearhead of innovation and technology”, leaving many speculating that a production-ready version of the recently revealed Vision 100 Concept might be just around the corner.

For those of you who need a refresher course on the BMW i8, look no further…
