Audi unveils official images of the 310hp TTS Coupé.
[Not a valid template]The floodgates from Geneva are beginning to creep open, with official pictures of the all-new Audi TTS Coupé the first to break cover. And we’re pleased to see that the newboy actually does boast quite a few similarities to the render that was leaked a couple of weeks ago.
As well as the low, low stance (courtesy of lower S line sports suspension) and spectacularly sharp bodylines, the new-for-2015 TTS Coupé also boasts a seriously mean looking nose, complete with a broader and flatter front grille, more prominent air intakes and angry new Matrix-tech headlights. It’s a distinctive and altogether more brooding re-design of the model that first tweaked hairdresser interests way back in 1998. Look past the über cool multi-spoke alloys and you’ll also find four oval tailpipes, the sporty TTS doubling up over the standard TT’s twin pipes to emphasise the power on tap.
Said power – all 310hp of it (230hp in the base level TT) – comes from Audi’s updated 2.0 TFSI four-cylinder, which when mated to a six-speed S tronic transmission in the TTS nails 0-100kph in 4.7 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250kph. The TT proves to be no pushover though, 100kph off the line completed in just 5.3 seconds with the 2.0-litre offering an impressive 272.90 lb-ft of torque to the TTS’s 280.27lb ft. As expected with Audi’s more performance savvy model, Quattro all-wheel drive has also been bolted on.
Another point of interest concerns what Audi calls the ‘virtual cockpit’, which uses a ‘less is more’ philosophy to meld the instrument cluster and MMI screen into a central, digital unit for a cleaner, minimalist look. Take a close look past the S sports seats and you’ll find the controls for the air vents have rather niftily been incorporated into their overall design. You may also notice the mimicked look of jet engines ‘with their turbine-like design’.
