We realize we don’t often bring you news concerning the industry’s latest station wagons, but there were a couple of things about this latest offering from Mercedes that made us reconsider.
First, what we have here, according to Merc, ‘is quite clearly a coupe’. Yep, don’t let those pesky five doors, competitive load volume and large tailgate fool you. What we have here is a coupe designed to ‘differentiate [Mercedes] from the mainstream’, which does make us wonder what other hidden sorcery lies beneath that silver metallic paint.
Second, this model is called the Shooting Brake. Now we pride ourselves at crankandpiston on our maturity and automotive passion, but every so often something comes along to remind us that we are in fact eight-years-old. Shooting Brake, let’s be honest, just sounds cool!
Third, fans of M. C. Escher and other impressionist art may find the attached images interesting. An added bonus to the black and white images do help make the front end and alloys look pretty badass.
And finally, the range of engines available includes a 408hp biturbo V8, good for 0-100kph in 5.3s and an electronically limited top speed of 250kph.
Yep, we haven’t completely lost our way at crankandpiston…
