Apologies to the (no doubt) scores of PR ladies and gents currently touring crankandpiston, but we find a large part of our job entails trawling through oodles of hyperbolic prose that land day-in and day-out in the company inbox and waxes lyrical about one new set of wing mirrors or another. One phrase though recently caught our eye:

“If the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is an angel soaring in the heavens – epitomising the worlds of serenity, style and performance – then the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT is a much darker, more evil Affalterbach beast altogether” (That’s the Baden region of Germany, just FYI).

Intros don’t come much more enticing than that.

Given the SLS’s almost vertical rise to stardom though, it’s fair to see why Mercedes is so excited by the new and untamed SLS AMG GT. Prices are expected to be eye-watering, but that will buy you quite a few GT badges as you would expect, plus red brake calipers and darkened headlamps.

But for your dosh, the pulsing 6.3l V8 heart under the bonnet will also be at your mercy. The SLS’s previous performance records are soundly trounced, 591hp replacing 563hp and 0-100kph now done and dusted in just 3.7s. Oh, and an electronically limited 320kph top speed.

Now for the difficult bit: Coupe or Roadster? Gullwings or blue sky and whistling wind? Tough choice…
