Audi has unveiled a new RS Q3 performance model.

If the RS Q3 was quite good but not quite sporting enough for some, you’ll be pleased to know that the new Audi RS Q3 Performance is now available.

Joining both the RS 6 Avant and RS 7 performance variants in a new wave of models positioned above their ‘standard’ RS equivalents. Consequently the 2.5-litre TFSI five-cylinder has been completely revised. The cooling capacity of the main radiator has been increased and the fuel pump modified to liberate 27bhp of additional power. The RS Q3 Performance thus packs 367bhp and peak 343lb ft of torque, helping the compact SUV break the 100kph barrier from rest in just 4.4 seconds and reach 269kph. By 250kph, the standard RS Q3 – which we took across Europe to Le Mans last year – is out of breath, after taking 4.8 seconds to get from 0-100kph.

The Performance’s five-cylinder is mated to a seven-speed S-tronic transmission with short ratios, while Audi’s established Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system delivers 367bhp to the road via a hydraulically actuated, electronically controlled multi-plate clutch. Power is distributed automatically between the front and rear axles as required, and even selectively to each wheel thanks to the networked Electronic Stabilisation Control (ESC). This features a further enhanced sport mode affording even greater adjustability. Complementing the Quattro is taut RS sport suspension, which lowers the body by 20mm over the standard Q3. RS sport suspension plus with damper control is available as an option.

Cosmetic changes are minima, though the exterior design with its typical RS design details underscores the distinctive appearance of the Audi high-performance models. These include the purposefully styled bumpers with large air inlets up front, the heavily profiled diffuser insert at the rear, gloss black honeycomb grilles and 20-inch performance exclusive alloy wheels with matt titanium finish.

Prices for the RS Q3 Performance start from $71,318.
