Do you remember the story I wrote about my brief love (Bentley Continental GT) affair with another woman? Well today I met her mother.
She’s a racy one. Statuesque, proud, but oh so naughty. Welcome to the Bentley Flying Spur……Speed – and I think you will agree – she rocks.
As a Banker I’m lucky enough to sit in the back of many an S Class as I waft from one meeting to another. They are great cars but lack something. They are expensive, but nowhere near the price tag of the Flying Spur. So it got me thinking, is the additional expense of a Flying Spur really worth it over and above what an S Class gives you? Having ridden the ‘mother’, it took me a split second to answer – hell yeah!
Why? Well it just is. As James May put it, a Bentley gives you a ‘fizz’ in your pants. But really, it’s the details. The quality and attention to detail on this car abound.
Her curves are flawless. The paint colour is deep and has a hue that lasts. Her chest is out with confidence along with her chin……’a come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough’ type gesture but with the most sublime class.
Her shoes are magnificent. 21 inch heels that put her daughters Louboutins to shame. Precise, purposeful and mean looking.
From the front, it’s difficult to tell her and the daughter apart. Age has treated her well and she has the same killer smile has her younger offspring. Clearly the Speed marque is a giveaway that this little beauty is more than some ‘botoxed mutton dressed as lamb’ or ‘all fur coat and no knickers’ type affair. She has the goods and delivers in every way.
And when you peel back the covers and climb inside her, she just feels……well just……perfect. Inside she is dressed in the finest leather – may be a subtle hint to her weekend pleasures.
Floor the throttle, and she rocks just like her daughter. But she does it with a little more experience. She almost knows what you want and can teach you a trick or two. For something that is as stately as the Speed, she handles like a GT.
And she’s a tease too. Everywhere I look I see her coyly smiling back at me. Her knowing smirk is everywhere. Whilst driving I think I spent more time staring in the rear view mirror watching her wink back at me then I did on the chaos outside.
Technically, this car has all that you could wish for – except it is at the highest standard. The Naim sound system is so crystal clear and loud that it nearly bumps you off your seat. I could almost have been at Hed Kandi whilst I was driving along the highway to Abu Dhabi.
And for all those people that believe that Vertu is the ultimate status phone……think again.
I want one of these phones as I know (and that’s all that matters) what it will be attached to.
