Audi develops one-off A8 limousine

Audi has produced an extended version of its A8 model (to the length of 6.36-metres) following customer demand.

Ever wondered what the Audi A8 might look like if it was developed as a 6.36m / 20ft limousine? Nope, us neither. Apparently though Ingolstadt has gone and done just that after a full year of development ‘at the special request of a European customer’. Just goes to show that sometimes bachelorette parties are looking for something a bit subtler than a hot pink stretched Hummer H3.

Even despite our scepticism though, there’s been no shortcuts on the new Audi A8 L Extended. For one, it’s powered by a 310bhp 3-litre TFSI V6 – mated with an eight-speed tiptronic automatic gearbox – that delivers up to 324.5lb ft of torque. Consider that alongside the pretty sizable 2418kg weight, the A8 L Extended is still capable of hitting 250kph and 100kph from standstill in 7.1 seconds. Less than eight seconds. For a vehicle longer than some buses.

The A8 L extended features six seats (all facing direction of travel) and the Audi Space Frame, which is made up almost entirely from aluminium, and has taken almost a year to develop. The six seats are upholstered in extra-supple Valcona leather, in the colour velvet beige. Rows two and three feature electrically adjustable individual seats. The third row has a continuous centre console, a Rear Seat Entertainment display and a cool box, while engineers have also extended the side sills and centre tunnel using extruded aluminium sections. On the inside, a double rear bulkhead separates the passenger compartment from the luggage compartment, as well as sun blinds for each of the windows and a 2.40-metre glass panel in the roof.

Interesting. Wonder how we get one of these on The Management Fleet. ‘Dear European Customer’…
