Land Rover is about to launch a new advertising campaign in preparation for the big push on the 2011 LR2 (Freelander 2 in Europe, North Africa and the RoW). We really like the new direction that Land Rover have headed with this advert, as instead of the usual industry norm of glamorous clean shots of the car mixed with city scapes or dirty off-road scenes the car will never be seen in, they have turned to animation – of the old school variety. Of all things, Land Rover has turned to the power of claymation!

The “star” of the show, other than the Land Rover of course, is a chap by the name of Clay Mason. As you will see during the clip Clay discusses his past claymation acting history, the arduous nature of the schedule and what it is like to drive the 2011 Land Rover LR2.

A little garden party factoid for you is that there was a rather ludicrous two tonnes of modelling clay used on the shoot, which took the better part of two months to shoot and edit.

Sadly, I doubt we will get to see the advert on the television here in the Middle East, however it will air in the United Kingdom starting from January 2011. Mind you, does that matter when you have seen it right here?
