Ride with the celebs at one 0f the world’s greatest races.
Decades ago, the Mille Miglia was one of the highlights of the international motorsport calendar. A 1000-mile (1609km) sprint across Italy and back on public roads, it attracted some of the greatest racing drivers of the day – Moss, Fangio, Ascari, Taruffi. It ran 24 times from 1927 to 1957, before a serious accident that killed several spectators and competitors put paid the the event.
The lure and the glamour of the Mille Miglia never really went away though, and these days the race is run at a somewhat slower pace in tribute to the spirit of the original. Cars of the era recreate the route, and everyone has a jolly nice time.
Jaguar sent its heritage fleet out in force, manned by a team of celebrities including supermodels Jodie Kidd and David Gandy, former racing driver Derek Bell, celebrity chef James Martin and rapper Example. They took a film crew along with them, and the result is this short insight into the Mille Miglia. It’s enough to make us want to go back again.
