We’re not quite sure what it is about watches that appeal to petrolheads. It’s some sort of base instinct, instilled deep in the very fabric of our being. So put watch and motorsport together and we’re all ears. And salivating mouths.
This is the new TAG Heuer Monaco Twenty Four. First revealed as a concept watch a couple of years ago, it’s now been confirmed for production and offers a taste of motoring history in a timepiece.
On the black dial sit vertical blue and orange stripes lifted straight from the Gulf livery of the Porsche 917K that Steve McQueen drove in the movie Le Mans. In further homage to France’s most famous race, the number 24 replaces the 12 digits at the top of the hour.
TAG Heuer Monaco? Le Mans 24 Hours? Gulf stripes? Steve freakin’ McQueen? This may well be the manliest watch ever.
