Japanese Classic Car Show. Checking The Talent

There also appears to be a general consensus regarding the styling of these cars. Patina is an important ingredient (although many cars were sporting faux-patina) as is the obligatory roof-rack. Extra kudos seems to be given to random objects chosen for aesthetic reasons rather than for any practical purpose. This 1971 First Generation Toyota Hilux pretty much nails the look.

The chosen random aesthetic object for transportation on this Hilux was quite a cool looking bike and somehow it managed to gel with the overall look. I don’t particularly buy into this fashionable movement but it did add some quirkiness to the cars on display at JCCS. However, mix this California look with a healthy dollop of B?s?zoku style and you have something completely different.

This Shakotan Zombie Cressida blends West Coast and JDM styling themes and is a product of one of the guys from the wonderfully named Sparkle Garage. I have been following the build thread on this 1979 Cressida for a few years now over on Japanese Nostalgic Car Forum, and its outwardly raggedy appearance hides a particularly well sorted car. One modification worthy of note is the 2JZ transplant making this a JZX32 and (clever segue moment) was one of many cars with engine swaps.

Within the Japanese classic car scene engine swaps are commonplace. Brian Anderson´s C30 Nissan Laurel may be a super rare JDM hardtop coupé and possibly the only one in the United States but under the hood (Amerikanese for ¨bonnet¨) was an SR20.
