We’ve had a couple of pretty productive weeks at crankandpiston. Though we’re not ones to rest on our laurels, we couldn’t help but wonder hark back to some our earlier successful endeavours too…

We recently compiled ten top tips for a successful media event while driving the new Bentley Continental GT V8, but that’s not been the focus of all our exotic drives. We impressed the parents with the Rolls-Royce Ghost, tried to beat the clock across all seven emirates in a Bentley Continental GTC, considered the significance of the 1972 Dino 246 GTS, gone for a spin in FOUR Lamborghinis, wondered what happens when saloon car meets Hot Rod with the Lexus IS F, and picked some epic spots between Dubai and Salalah with the Rolls-Royce Phantom. And we expect there’s more to come.

Our time recently with a Ferrari 458, McLaren MP4-12C and Lamborghini Aventador got us thinking about some of the other awesome performance machines we’ve had the pleasure of driving. In 2010 crankandpiston spent some time with an SR8 in the European Masters Radical Championship. Then we had our first taste of the Nissan 370Z, followed swiftly by the Ferrari 348 TS, and the Mercedes SLS. More recently, we spent some time with the Maserati GranTurismo S, the Nissan GTR and, of course, the Jaguar XFR.

If the boys at Forged Performance and Alpha Logic taught us anything, it’s that meticulous attention to detail pays off. We learnt a similar lesson from the guys at Oryx Racing, Motorsport Wheels Dubai, DK Engineering, Panda Performance, and TAM Auto Engineering.

The Toyota 86, Mercedes CLS 63, BMW 650i convertible, Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible, and Lancia Delta Integrale HF Evoluzione II have provided us with a few giggles. And these are stock machines. You should check them out when they’re race-spec, such as has been demonstrated by the King of Europe, The Chase, Proform and Barrel Sprint.

Porsche has recently unveiled the new PowerKit for the 911 Carrera S, and that got us thinking about the marque’s other appearances on-site. Recently there was crankandpiston‘s experience on the Cote D’Azur with the new Boxster, the Dubai RAUH-Welt Porsche, the 911 Turbo S taking on Jebel Hafeet, Project 4, and the Cayman R. We got a kick out of the 964 RS too.

As we welcomed two new recruits to the Management Fleet, we thought about some of the more adventurous real world tests we’ve put some of our previous examples through. We put the VW Scirocco R up against the Range Rover Evoque, put the Chevrolet Sonic up against some fellow $15,000 chargers, got The Duchess back on its feet, and shopped the Ford Flex (sort of). Oh, and it turns out the Nissan Juke was pretty helpful on moving day.
