Given the heritage on display at the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed, we’ve awoken our nostalgic side. And you guys know what that means…

A rare sign on crankandpiston: a hybrid. Or so you might think. As well as the Lexus CT200h, our time with the Tesla Roadster and the BMW ActiveHyrbid5, we’ve also brought you news on the Audi R8 e-tron, Rimac Concept One, the Fisker Karma, Citroen Survolt and Audi’s hybrid success in the World Endurance Championship.

Mercedes recently announced its new SLS AMG GT, the latest in a long line of epic AMG machinery. The marque had its own celebration, but this also got us thinking about some of Merc’s larier examples: say the original SLS AMG, the SLR, the Laureus design GT3 and the C63 AMG. Let’s throw a cheeky shout out to the CL63 AMG too.

Fadi Tammour spent some time with crankandpiston explaining the ins and outs of his sub-10s quarter-mile Pontiac GTO, and the drag strip at Yas Marina has given us some notable news pieces across the years: the exploding Chevrolet Camaro, the Drag Festival, ‘Life in the Fast Lane‘ and, of course, the Pro Drag Series.

Sharif Abdelbaset from Forged Performance also walked us through the best way to tune a Nissan GTR, and he’s just one of many personalities we’ve featured down the years: Patrick Depailler, Ken Block, Joe Ghanem, Bil Baldwin, and Christophe Hissette, to name but a few.

Before Mo’s visit to Germany to test the new Porsche Boxster S, he went for a spin at the Ascari Race Resort in a Porsche Panamera GTS. This also included a quick whizz around the resort’s garage. That sounds impressive enough, but Mo’s also spent time with the Harley Davidson Softail Slim, the Road Glide CVO and the Bentley Continental GT V8.

One of the principal highlights of the Goodwood Festival of Speed was the Jaguar XJR-9, which in turn got us thinking about the Jaguar XFR, the XJ, our drive across the UK, and Heritage Racing. We also celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Jaguar XJ220 too, and wonder how long it will be before we see the new F-Type on the roads.

And be sure to check out more of our unseen images HERE.
