It seems appropriate that, in the same week BMW announced the imminent arrival of a new 6-Series Gran Coupe, its former-Design Director Chris Bangle began publicizing his new book. Budding artists take note, since you could be chosen to illustrate it.
The work – ‘Peter Teufel: A Tale Of Car Design In Three Parts’ – uses a fictional setting to critique design procedure in the automotive world. The ‘three parts’ detail the secret to ‘True Car Design’ in the past, the evolution of design as it stands today, and the inevitable consequences this will have on its future. The lucky winner of a recently launched competition will design the artwork for the book’s prologue as well as receive a €2000 cash prize.
After stints at Opel and Fiat, Bangle switched to BMW where his enthusiasm truly took hold. The upcoming BMW 6-Series, for example, owes a lot to the American. It was, after all, Bangle’s Z9 Gran Turismo concept car in 2009 from which the 6 ultimately derived its distinctive looks >>>
