That’s the old girl past the 100,000km mark. I remember when I first picked her up from the garage, with a lowly 85,000km on the clock. The odometer ticked round to the 100K mark just as I pulled up at home one night, so I did manage to get a nice photo. Unfortunately my phone then decided to pack in and so the photo was lost forever.

Having passed the big one hundred thousand, I wondered if that would be the Porsche done, but thankfully that’s far from true. I find it astounding how automakers manage to make a product essentially built of metal and plastic, and have it still pounding away perfectly happy after so many beatings from the sun and sand in the Middle East.

Needless to say the 100,000km have not been without the odd tinker here and there. The next service is due soon and there will be a bit more tinkering on the way, but no major problems to report. I had the battery replaced in the car a year-or-so ago as I was getting problems with the transmission. On start-up I was getting the slightest flicker of a transmission warning and when slowing down or stop-starting in traffic, I was getting a bit of a kick. The same has begun again so I will have to raise this during the service. The battery is only one year old and I have no idea what the life expectancy of a car battery is in this region. But for $300, I would be hoping for more than a year.

The tints on the driver and passenger side windows have begun to peel off as well. A quick visit to V. Kool and they confirmed that the tints have a five-year warranty so have agreed to replace the two films for me. This is by no means an urgent fix to keep the car running, but I am a bit of a stickler for details and it is small items like this that annoy me. Thankfully these should be all sorted in the next day or two.

I will give you an update next month about the service costs but other than the battery I am not expecting any major surprises. Which, for a change, is a nice situation to be in.
