In a first for the region last weekend, the residents of Doha we're treated to another great American extreme motor sport. The idea is really quite simple, create a bizarre team name like 'U-48 Go Fast, Turn Left' or 'U-17 Our Gang Racing', add a MACK truck, then take one flat bottomed powerboat and strap to it a Chinook helicopter engine, the result... a pack of mad Americans driving anti clockwise very very fast (300kmh) around an inshore circuit of approximately 3km.
Being honest, I'm not a big fan of oval racing (in any form) but to see these extreme machines doing that speed on water was quite mind blowing. The strange thing was the noise, you would expect that due to the nature of the sport it was going to be very loud - nope, think the environmental sound committee got to it, there was nothing but a slight turbine wine from the jet. Of coarse a great show (race) was put on with close racing, crashes, and an open pit which allowed us all to get up close and personal to these extreme beasts.

The Detroit River Regatta Association has announced new dates for the running of the 2010 Detroit APBA Gold Cup. The event will be held on the Detroit River June 25-27.
In announcing the move to the June dates, DRRA President and Race Director Tom Bertolini pointed out several factors that led to the DRRA decision.
“We believe that more of our race fans are at home in late June than our previous dates, which were closer to the 4th of July,” explained Bertolini Sildenafil.
Bertolini added, “This also gives us the opportunity to hold the event in co-ordination with other Detroit area festivals and events in late June and give the area a tremendous two-week kickoff to summer.”
Event Director Mark Weber pointed out that, tadalafil, “Now that our dates have been finalized, our season ticket holders should receive their pre-season ticket sales packages soon.”
“We are very excited about opening our season in Detroit and competing for the APBA Gold Cup,” said Sam Cole, H1 Unlimited Chairman.
