Crank and Piston HomeHome

Australian Nostalgia Drags // Part 3 of 3 // Night racing.

The sun went down, the track cooled, and there was then a reason to do bigger, better, and more spectacular burn-outs, much to the delight of the dedicated crowd that stuck around.

As if seeing awesome old rods gunning down the strip during the day wasn't enough, seeing them going hell for leather after dark made the spectacle all the more thrilling.

I have to say, this was definately the most challening event that I have shot from a technical point of view. Not only was it my first time dropped on to the central reservation of a drag strip, with high powered, angry machinery pushing all pistons just inches from me, but the added factors of the darkness, the speed, and the sheer craziness of it all happening at the same time challenged my skills to the limit.

A large part of photography, like most things, is learning on the fly and making split secnd decisions, either right or wrong. This was a sure case in point..

Enjoy the pics.

Luke.

Great pictures

Hi Luke

Seems to me you learned faster than the dragsters. They're great shots, really emotive, they tell the story of the night and it looks like it was a lot of fun.

I'm guessing the roll cage regulations don't cover the fact that the cage should be higher than the driver's head!!!! (Guy in the white car, with the red helmet, top of the page.) Now that's worrying. Or are cages not even compulsory?

Regulations....?

...this is Australia... ;o]
